The ATS Beginning Climbing Course is designed to familiarize you with the basic principles of rock climbing and rock climbing techniques, as well as basic gear review, risk & safety management, route grades, and their difficulty ratings, top rope climbing, and the
history of the sport.

Course Locations & Times
Our beginner climbing courses take place at various climbing areas in the Western United States depending on season and desired location. The locations vary from Idyllwild to Joshua Tree to Red Rocks and more. Please visit out course schedule page for specific locations.
Unless indicated otherwise, all courses are full day courses, usually meeting at 8AM and going until sunset. Half day courses are either begun at 8AM or noon depending on your personal schedule.

Beginner Course Prerequisites
To participate in the beginner climbing course, we ask you to have the ability to walk on uneven surfaces and lift objects while wearing a backpack up to 30lbs. This course is suggested persons with a body weight up to 280lbs. and a waist size up to 38 inches. The top rope routes we climb range from 20-60 feet in height.

Course Pricing
The price for half day courses is $90. These courses are only offered in Southern California.
The price for full day courses ranges from $120-$180 depending on location.
