Episode 13:
Canyon Rescue!

Watch footage of an actual canyoneering rescue after ATS Instructor R.B. Hopkins slips and dislocates his shoulder on a recreational first descent trip in Maui in 2009.

Episode 12:
Flash Floods!

Flash floods can be very deadly! In 1999, 21 people were killed by flash flood while canyoneering in Switzerland. In 2008, 7 were killed in New Zealand while descending a canyon. Study the weather! Always be vigilant.

Episode 11:
Bare Bones Self-Rescue Ascending

Occasionally rock climbers and canyoneers are faced with the prospect of self-rescue. That is, the participant has encountered a situation where they cannot continue - the rope is too short, the rope is damaged, the rope is severed, etc... and they must ascend the rope to rescue themselves from that situation.
Episode 10:
Washington Canyoneering

The ATS team spent a great day out enjoying the swiftwater at Davis Creek in Southern Washington.

ATS proudly offers canyoneering courses
in Washington every summer.

Episode 9:
Can a Rappel Device Burn Through a Rope?

Can my rappel device melt through my rope? ATS presents an informative look at the question many have asked after getting off rappel while canyoneering or rock climbing and nearly burn themselves on a too hot rappel device.

Episode 8:
Retrieve the Tagline

Belay the leader out to the edge with a munter off a stout anchor. Once the leader secures the end of the rope, break down the munter into a fixed single line 'biner block. Each person in the group clips their edge protection to the handline. Last person to the edge takes the rest of the single line and retrieves the system. No problemo!
Episode 7: How Climbing Rope is Made!

An interesting look at the inner workings of the Sterling Rope factory where the best rope in the world is made.

Sterling produces high quality, exceptional rope for the climbing, canyoneering, and rescue world in additon to the ATS Series of canyoneering products.

Episode 6:
Rappeling Past a Knot

One method for rappelling past a knot utilizing an autoblock (shunt device in this case) and a load releasable system (radium in this case). Efficient and easy with practice.

Episode 5:
Swimming Off
Rappel

How to swim away from your rope in a canyon. Sage advice from the experts in swift (and still) water canyoneering.

Episode 4:
Extending Your Rappel Device

Extending your Rappel Device for Canyoneering.

A perspective on extending your rappel device using the chain reactor from Sterling Rope.
