Night Photography Workshop Overview

This late night course is perfect for students who want to learn proper exposure (film and/or digital) in the night environment. We will use both artificial light, star light, and moon light to photograph.

Students must have prior familiarity with their cameras and a good background in the basic concepts of photography.

The Night Photography Workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Reciprocity
  • Light Painting
  • Strobe and Flash Photography
  • Bulb Setting and Proper Exposure
  • Reading the Histogram
  • Overcoming Film Grain and Noise
  • Color Balance
  • City Photography
  • Star Trails
  • Constellations
  • Shooting the Moon
Camera Qualifications:
You must own a digital SLR and/or 35mm SLR film camera with a bulb setting along with a compatible tripod. On the registration form you will indicate your camera model. If you have a question regarding your camera please contact the instructor - nick@alpinets.com.

Workshop Tuition:
$165 per person. Group Minimum of 4. Private Dates available upon request.

Not Included:
Transportation from your hometown to the group meeting point; camera; lodging or campsites; insurance of any kind; meals; gratuities and items of a personal nature. Note: alcoholic beverages are not allowed at the course.

Course Location, Meeting Spot, and Time:

This workshop will take place in the Angeles National Forest along Angeles Crest Highway. Typically, we will meet one hour prior to sunset.

Weather:
Temperatures can range from 30 - 50° F at night depending on time of year. Upon registration, a seasonal and location specific gear recommendation list will be sent electronically.
